I have heard people say things like “You cannot save the world, so let it go” when faced with what felt like epic and necessary arguments.

I am talking about the big talks. The concepts of religion. Political views. Subject matter that makes people question their values.

Subjects where you should assert the strongest opinions are touchy, emotional, and provocative, but they are not just hot topics. These are topics for which the consensus needs swaying.

I am talking about animal abuse. Child abuse. Elder abuse. Bullying. Harassing. Trolling. General cruelty. These things are the hobbies of monsters and are never acceptable in any case.

People wince and slump away from such discussions because it becomes uncomfortable quickly.

Recently my associates rolled their eyes at me when they saw me typing furiously in a chatroom where someone had begun to make jokes about the mistreatment of animals and women.

The group was already cringing at the gruesome words used by a particularly strong brand of troll. Privately several people warned me with something along the lines of this: “He doesn’t hurt cats and he doesn't beat his girlfriends. He just…
